Donation Drive - Tip Sheet
Organizing a Donation Drive at Your Workplace or School
It's easy to help UP residents to meet needs for good health and safety. Residents need many of the same items we all use at home. You can rally students, parents, friends, colleagues, and your employers to participate, donating and collecting the everyday items needed. Here are some ideas:
- Let us know what you are planning and get from us any materials or advice that may be helpful
- Get permission and cooperation from employer or school to host and promote the drive
- Choose an item or two from the Everyday Needs and Wish List (see reverse) to feature (or provide the whole or partial list so participants choose what is easy or meaningful to them)
- Promote the UP Drive - make and distribute flyer (hard copy and email, where appropriate)
- Keep it simple. Make it easy. Tell participants Who, What, Where, When, Why and How.
- Collect the items in a well-signed bin or bins, placed in an easy access, supervised location(s)
- Tally the items collected and announce your success to participants (you may want to set a goal)
- Deliver your collection to UP, or call us and we'll pick up.
Perhaps a recurring monthly drive makes sense for your group.
Each month’s drive can repeat the same item(s) or focus on the area of greatest need.
We Can Help You!
We can make a presentation to your group.
Make a poster, bin and/or signage.
Report to you on the results of your gift and publicly recognize your act of kindness.
Other ideas…
- Ask your employer to support the UP and the generous efforts of employees with a financial contribution, a matching gift (doubling your efforts), or goods out of inventory.
- Promote the Unity Project through your Employee Charitable Contribution Organization for designated payroll giving through the United Way.
- Have a party and ask guests to make a financial or item contribution “at the door.”
- Volunteer at the Unity Project.
